Second Edition of DISCOVER SPANISH TASTE in Delhi

      It is the high season for food and beverage events, and Spain, the number three global exporter of wine, has just held another promotional event. 31 companies from Spain participated on the Second Edition of DISCOVER SPANISH TASTE, the gastronomic exhibition were more than 200 professionals from the Food & Beverage sector attended to meet new companies interested in entering the market.

      Some of the brands presented were already known in India like El Almendro, Valor chocolates, Freixenet cava, Farina wineries. Many other brands are ready to start their projects of introduction in India. The programme started with the presentation of the event at a press conference headed by the Spanish Ambassador, H.E. Ion de la Riva, the Counsellor of FIAB (Spanish Federation of Food and Drinking Industries) Mr. Jose Carlos Lacasa and the Food & Wine Ambassador of Spain in India Ms. Noelia Piriz. Two workshops held were very well attended by the audience who was delighted with the tapas presentation by chef Saurabh Arora from El Bulli School and a guided tasting of Spanish wines leaded by sommelier Harshal Sha.

      This event was part of the “PLAN INDIA 2010-2012” sponsorised by FIAB (the Spanish Federation of Food and Beverages) ICEX (The Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade), the Ministry of the Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs (MARM), and the promotion bodies of eleven regions of Spain. The target of the PLAN INDIA 2010-2012 is to have a strategic platform to promote Spanish products in India, which is following the successful model that has been already implemented in China, the organiser says. All the varous bodies and institutions are working together to boost the exports to India.

      The Spanish Food & Drink industry has annual sales of Euro 82 billion and occupies the 5th position in terms of sales in Europe. Spain is currently the 1st world producer of olive oil and olives, the 3rd world exporter of wines after France and Italy in terms of sales and the 1st EU exporter of fresh food and vegetables.

      According to the organisers, this event marks the beginning of three years of promotions, activities, and marketing support actions that will also reinforce the trade relationship between the two countries.
